Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
